Ascoli Piceno in the Marche is the provincial capital, is Episcopalian and has a population of more than 50 thousand inhabitants. The origins of Ascoli are mysterious, but the human presence is at least the Stone Age. The city is said to have been founded by the Sabines, led by a woodpecker. The Sabines would then mixed with other populations giving rise to the Piceno, making Ascoli main population center. The most important events of Ascoli Piceno are the Chivalrous Tournament of the Quintana, the polenta festival and culinary specialties such as stuffed olives. It’s a very beautiful place to reach in a convertible car.
